Spinning

The Postman rang twice this week and both parcels were spinning-related.

Firstly I ordered these two spindles from The Bellwether. The one on the left is a Kundert spindle, bloodwood on maple, and the one on the right is a Bosworth Midi made from Birds Eye Maple. They both spin absolutely true and are a joy to use in comparison to my clunky Ashworth. I have no idea whatever possessed me to order them now I've progressed to a wheel, other than that they are beautiful things to have around and I'm getting better, honestly.

Then this beautiful roving arrived from Copperpot, an Etsy Seller. It's called Darling Victoria. My camera really struggles with accurate representations of all shades of purple. I've tinkered with the photo to get it as close as possible on my monitor. In reality it is plum, camel and olive. It feels and smells totally sumptuous. It's the sort of thing you could just revel in rolling around in!

This is where it really becomes apparent that I'm a beginning spinner. I have no idea how to tackle this roving. When unravelled it is three separate colours, not blended at all. I could spin them up as such and then ply them together, but that seems to defeat the object, so I'm going for a more blended look and pre-drafting them together. I have no idea what I'm going to get. Lets hope it's serendipitous.

The quilts are ready to go, but we're flying and I've forgotten a) how heavy fabric is, and b) how bulky batting is. I could buy the batting from the quilter, but I've made my choice carefully and that would be something of a compromise. If it weren't for the reports of snow further north I'd say "who needs clothes anyway", but I don't think that's a realistic option. Tomorrow I'm going to hijack Mum's case!

See you when I get back from Scotland.

Sending good traveling vibes your way. I know what you mean about getting something you ordered and then feeling rather overwhelmed by it, but I know you'll fiber out the roving. Oh, and if it's any comfort to you, we're getting snow and cold weather in my part of the world, too. :) /jb
